Surf Simply Podcast56 - Clarke Little Interview and Surf Simply 2.0

Recorded on Monday 12th February, 2018, with Harry Knight, Asher King, Tommy Potterton and Ru Hill

INTRODUCTION:

Ru started the show talking about the elections in Costa Rica, and Tommy filled us in on his recovery from illness. Asher is feeling a little under the weather this episode, but before he got sick he went for a surf with our new photographer Callum Morse.

Harry has serviced his paramotor and is back in the air, despite managing to burn his wrist while working on the exhaust.

As a quick follow up to Episode 55, we corrected Ru's miss-naming of the Overcast App, and we had a few listeners get in touch to tell us about the things they bought in 2017. Tom Tobin bought a GoofBoard, Joe Benjamin bought a Gath Helmet and Amir Aliabadi bought a road bicycle.

Ru mentioned this study that linked certain phone apps with greater happiness.

THE NEWS:

Harry started by talking about the slew of articles that have come out about the media day at Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch. He recommended 2 podcasts that were worth listening to, Surf Splendor with Matt Warshaw and Jamie Brisick, and Spit, with Scott Bass and David Scales.

In WSL news, Head Judge Richie Porter has stepped down and Pritamo Ahrendt will be the Head Judge for 2018. The WSL have also done a $30m deal with Facebook to provide the online stream for all surf contests, which led us to a conversation about the pros and cons of social media.

Finally on the WSL news, there is an ongoing dispute between the WSL and the local council on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii, which might see the Pipeline contest dropped from the 2019 schedule.

The team recommended checking out some of the highlights from the recent Volcom Pipe Pro.

We also spoke about the BWWT event at Nazare in Portugal

Finally in the news, Quiksilver's CEO, Pierre Agnes is missing and presumed dead in boating accident off Hossegor

MAIN FEATURE: Ru on the Development of Surf Simply 2.0
