Community Projects, Lifeguarding2011 Surf Simply Beach Lifeguard Course

-Words by Ru Hill

I’m really pleased to say that we will be teaming up once again with the trainers and assessors from ERA Adventures, to run an International Beach Lifeguard certification course here in Nosara in November.

If you’re someone who plans to make surfing a part of your life, then you should definitely do this course at some point. It is a lot of fun, it will build you confidence as a surfer and will equip you with the sort of first aid knowledge which will allow you to deal with a wide variety of non-surf related accidents and medical emergencies. The course is open to anyone who is a level 2 surfer or higher.

The course is a mixture of practical training down on the beach and classroom based theory lessons. If you’d like to have a go but you’re not sure if you’re up to it then get to your nearest swimming pool and make sure that you can swim 400m in 8 minutes. It might take you a week or two of daily swimming but if you can do that, then you’ll be fit enough to do the course.

Post exam smiles from the new and old lifeguard’s on the final day of last year’s course.

We’re running the course on a non-profit basis this year so that it is accessible to anyone wanting to work as a surf coach or lifeguard. The basic course is just $500 and even if you would like B&B at the Surf Simply Resort it is still only $1100 for the week. If you like more info click here…
