Surf Simply Podcast44 - Snapper and Self Coaching

INTRODUCTION:

We started off by talking about our various vacations. Will went to Cuba with Jessie:

And Asher and Tommy went to Bocas Del Toro in Panama.

Ru has bought a new Rusty Slayer step up board for the next time the surf gets big, He also mentioned his Slater Designs Omni and his Bing Levitator. He also spoke about skiing in the USA, which reminded Will of seeing Jessie struggling on a ski lift.

We also spoke about the Surf Simply Tree of Knowledge that we're in the middle of updating.

THE NEWS:

First up this episode we spoke about the changes at the WSL. Samsung has pulled out as the headline sponsor, Visa has become a partner and Paul Speaker has stepped down as CEO.

We spoke about who would make a good sponsor for the WSL, and mentioned the deal AirB&B have as well as the various problems the WSL faces in growing its viewership.

The Big Wave World Tour has been reduced to just 3 events this year. We spoke about some ideas for growing the big wave tour and Ru brought up the idea of an event at Our's in Australia

And Will brought up the XXL Awards that are held each year by the WSL.

CONTEST ROUNDUP: Quiksilver and Roxy Pros, Snapper Rock, Australia.

Owen Wright won the Quiksilver Pro and Steph Gilmore won the Roxy Pro.

We started off by talking about the changes in the WSL broadcasting this year, and suggested a few new ideas. before we moved on to talk about Owen Wright's victory and recovery from last years injury. Harry mentioned this documentary from ABC:

We then moved on to talk about the strong showing from the goofy foot surfers at Snapper and the differences in judging and technique between forehand and backhand surfing. Asher mentioned this performance from Matt Wilkinson as an example of variation on the backhand.

Ru brought up Italo Ferreira's injury, and Asher spoke about some questionable judging
