Recorded on Monday January 16th 2017, with Harry Knight, Will Forster, Ru Hill and Harrison Abry
INTRODUCTION:
We started by talking about Will's finished surfboard. You can read the article he wrote about the experience in the Surf Simply Magazine, and we'll have more on that later in the show.
Harrison also told us about his modification of a longboard fin to allow him to use it in his shortboards.
Ru has also been playing with fins in his boards, and recommended putting bigger fins in longboards. He then went on to talk about different techniques for controlling the board while noseriding.
Harry finished us off by talking about how Asher and He ended up sharing waves with Robert “Wingnut” Weaver last week.
THE NEWS:
First up in the news, Matt Warshaw has launched the History of Surfing Website to sit alongside his Encyclopedia of Surfing site.
We then spoke about Paul Speaker resigning from the WSL. We'll be waiting to see who takes over from him. Harry and Ru spoke about how to engage non-surfers in competitive surfing.
Surfer Kepa Acero was injured at Mundaka during the January 1st swell. He broke his neck when he hit the sand, but is now recovering.
Meanwhile, Kalani Chapman was also injured during the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout competition.
Surftech are launching a new range of boards with 1 year warranty, the first board in the range is going to be a Balsa wood 9'6 Dick Brewer Gun.
MAIN FEATURE: Will On Shaping Surfboards
Will gave us a follow up to his article that we mentioned earlier.
He mentioned the Billabong video of Tyler Warrens quiver, and in particular his Bar of Soap Surfboard
He spoke about the problems he had with glues melting the EPS foam, but also the surprising ease he had actually shaping the Polystyrene foam.
His big recommendation was fiberglass on the roll, and getting a good pair of scissors, and he got some guidance from the guides on Greenlight Surf Supplies website.
